Peterson obtains ISO 50001 Energy Standard
The Offshore Group is proud to have obtained Energy Standard ISO 50001 in both the UK and Trinidad & Tobago. ISO 50001:2011 provides a framework of requirements for organisations to develop a policy for more efficient use of energy, fix targets and objectives to meet the policy, use data to better understand and make decisions about energy use, measure the results, review how well the policy works, and continually improve energy management.
Keith Dawson, Offshore Group Head of HSEQ explains: “The last three days have seen us undertake the stage two audit having successfully completed stage one in April. It’s always challenging to put a new standard into a business and although ISO 50001 is based on the management system model of continual improvement which also used in ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, it is a standard that is new to our company and something that as a business, we would need to achieve in order to be compliant to ESOS. We required an energy management system, an energy assessor and energy assessments were completed at all our sites. After successfully obtaining this standard in the UK and Trinidad & Tobago, we will now focus on obtaining this in the Netherlands as well.
We have achieved the ISO 50001 standard which I believe is absolutely fantastic for Peterson and gives us another standard, to add to our existing three (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001). However, even more important to our company is that we now have an even better tool to reduce energy cost and our environmental impact. Looking after this planet for our children and our grandchildren is vital to our company as we think in generations and not quarters. I am very proud of the team as this truly was a great team effort!”
